The Lead: No. 16 Christopher Newport scored three goals in a 6:28 span of the first half to break open a tight game en route to a 6-0 victory over Roanoke on Friday evening in Salem.
How it Happened:
- Both teams battled back in forth through most of the first half until a Carol Thompson goal in the 25th minute sparked the three goal run to end the first 35 minutes of play for the Captains.CNU would tack on a three goals in the second half to close out the scoring.
- RC had a chance to get on the board with four minutes left in the contest when Shelbi Holloman beat a defender and broke towards the goal, but CNU keeper Bailey Lient charged and was able to break up the chance
- Christopher Newport led RC in shots 16-5, while the Maroons had a 4-3 edge in penalty corners.
- Heather Schauder made seven stops in the cage for Roanoke.
