The Basics
Score:
Roanoke 2, Rhodes 1 (ot)
Records: Roanoke 5-3, Rhodes 5-4

The Lead: Emily McQueen scored with under two minutes in regulation to tie the game and then notched the game-winner in overtime as Roanoke topped Rhodes 2-1 on Sunday.

How it Happened:
  • It took Rhodes just 1:41 into the game to get on the scoreboard when Lauren Travis got a rebound of her own shot and beat RC keeper Heather Schauder to make it 1-0.
  • The game would remain that way until McQueen was able to one-time a pass from Katerina DeSimone  past Laura Eckelkamp to tie the game with just 2:47 remaining in regulation.
  • Rhodes had a chance to score when Travis broke in alone on Shauder with nine seconds left, but the freshman keeper made the save and was able to clear the ball to prevent another scoring chance.
  • In the overtime, Shelbi Holloman flipped a pass to McQueen who redirected the ball to score the game-winner.
  • Rhodes outshot RC 16-6 and held a 7-2 edge in penalty corners.
  • Schauder made 12 saves on the day for Roanoke to keep RC in striking distance.
