The Lead: Shelbi Holloman scored a goal and added an assist as the Roanoke College Field Hockey team topped Transylvania 3-0 Monday afternoon in Salem.

How it Happened:
  • The Maroons improve to 9-5 which is their highest win total since the 2004 season.
  • In the sixth minute, Transy fell on the ball inside the box, giving the Maroons a penalty stroke which Holloman converted to put RC up 1-0.
  • The game remained that way until the 31:01 mark when Megan Diehl notched her fifth goal in the last three games by scoring off her own rebound to make it 2-0.
  • Rebecca Schmidt capped the scoring in the 53 minute when Holloman slipped her a centering pass right in front of the cage and she beat the Transy keeper.
  • RC outshot Transylvania 29-4 and had a 19-3 edge in penalty corner opportunities.
  • Roanoke's Heather Schauder made a pair of saves to pick up her fifth shutout of the year. The tandem of Nina Shuffett (14) and Sidney Lococo (2) combined to make 16 saves for the Pioneers.
