The Lead: The Roanoke College Field Hockey team notched its first 10 win season since 2004 with a 2-1 victory at Ferrum Thursday afternoon.

How it Happened:
  • Katerina DeSimone got the RC offense going when she took a pass from Kestrel Thorne-Kaunelis and beat Ferrum keeper Courtney Gosselin to make it 1-0 Maroons at the 14:34 mark.
  • Shelbi Holloman doubled the Roanoke advantage just over four minutes later with an unassisted goal to make it 2-0.
  • The game remained that way until Ferrum cut the lead to 2-1 in the 43rd minute on a Kelly Savage goal.
  • That would be as close as Ferrum would get as RC allowed the Panthers just one shot the remainder of the contest.
  • RC outshot Ferrum 21-4 for the game and held a 9-3 edge in penalty corner opportunities.
  • Heather Schauder made one save in the cage for the Maroons, while Gosselin made eight stops for the Panthers.
