The Lead: The Roanoke College Field Hockey team notched its first 10 win season since 2004 with a 2-1 victory at Ferrum Thursday afternoon.
How it Happened:
- Katerina DeSimone got the RC offense going when she took a pass from Kestrel Thorne-Kaunelis and beat Ferrum keeper Courtney Gosselin to make it 1-0 Maroons at the 14:34 mark.
- Shelbi Holloman doubled the Roanoke advantage just over four minutes later with an unassisted goal to make it 2-0.
- The game remained that way until Ferrum cut the lead to 2-1 in the 43rd minute on a Kelly Savage goal.
- That would be as close as Ferrum would get as RC allowed the Panthers just one shot the remainder of the contest.
- RC outshot Ferrum 21-4 for the game and held a 9-3 edge in penalty corner opportunities.
- Heather Schauder made one save in the cage for the Maroons, while Gosselin made eight stops for the Panthers.
Roanoke will close out the regular season on Saturday when it hosts Virginia Wesleyan at 1:00 p.m. in a key ODAC match.
