Roanoke Tabbed Fifth in ODAC Field Hockey Preseason Poll

FOREST, Va. – Roanoke was ranked fifth in the 2016 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Field Hockey preseason poll, the league announced Wednesday afternoon.

Washington & Lee claimed the top spot in the preseason poll with 62 points and six first-place votes. Lynchburg (56 points) finished second with one first-place vote followed by defending conference champion, Bridgewater (48 points), in third with a pair of first place votes. Shenandoah took fourth with 46 points followed by the Maroons in fifth with 38. Randolph-Macon (28 points) was tabbed sixth while Virginia Wesleyan (23 points) finished seventh. Eastern Mennonite (15 points) and Sweet Briar (8 points) rounded out the poll in eight and ninth, respectively.

RC finished the 2015 season with an 11-7 overall record (2-5 ODAC), the most wins since 2003, after advancing to the ODAC quarterfinal.

Roanoke returns all four of its 2015 All-ODAC selections, seniors Shelbi Holloman and Kellie Jasinski alongside sophomores Kaylin Stenson and Heather Schauder. Holloman led the way with 37 points including 15 goals and seven assists, becoming the program's first All-Region selection since 2003.

Jasinski tallied started in all 18 games tallying four points and two goals. Stenson tallied five points with three assists and one goal. In goal, Schauder finished 10-6 with 102 saves while allowing only 21 goals, ranking third best in the conference.

The Maroons kick off the 2016 campaign Thursday, September 1 at Ferrum at 4 p.m.
