Strong Second Half Lifts Roanoke to 4-2 Win Over Washington College

The Lead: Katerina DeSimone scored twice as Roanoke topped Washington College 4-2 on Sunday afternoon in Salem. 

How it Happened:

  • Senior midfielder Emily McQueen put the Maroons on the board with a goal assisted by senior forward Shelbi Holloman just 5:50 into the game.
  • Washington College tied it up seven minutes later (13:14) with a goal from Alli Dudley. Dudley struck again at 17:39 giving Washington College a 2-1 advantage.
  • Katerina DeSimone (32:51) put one in the back of the cage off a cross from Holloman, evening the score 2-2 at the half.
  • DeSimone got what proved to the game-winner just 1:38 into the second half on an assist by junior midfielder Rebecca Schmidt, giving Roanoke the lead for good at 3-2.
  • Holloman extended the gap to 4-2 with her second point of the day when she put a shot into the left corner of the goal with 16 minutes left.
  • Washington College held a 15-12 advantage in shots while sophomore goalkeeper Heather Schauder recorded five saves on the day, while Kerrigan Buck turned away a pair of Maroon shots for Washington College.
