RC Field Hockey to Open Season Sept. 1

SALEM, Va. – Roanoke Field Hockey will open the 2017 season on Sept. 1 at in-state rival Ferrum. The Maroons have 10 home and seven away contest in the 2017 regular season slate.

The Old Dominion Athletic Conference recently announced that the Panthers will join the conference in the 2018-19 academic year.

Roanoke will host seven of its first nine opponents at Kerr Stadium in Salem, beginning with Sewanee on Sept. 3 in the home-opener followed by Wilson on Sept. 6 and McDaniel on Sept. 9 in Salem. The Maroons then travel to St. Mary's (Md.) on the 16th before returning home to open conference play against Bridgewater on the 19th. RC will face Transylvania on the 23rd, Centre on the 24th and ODAC member Virginia Wesleyan on the 30th.

In October, RC heads to Sweet Briar, Va. for a midweek match-up with the Vixens on the fourth. On Saturday, Oct. 7 the Maroons host the 2016 conference champion, Shenandoah, before traveling to Eastern Mennonite on the 14th and 2016 runner-up Washington and Lee on the 17th.

Roanoke faces Concordia (Wisc.) in Salem on Oct. 19 and travels to Washington College in Chestertown, Md., on the 21st in its final non-conference contests. Lynchburg travels to Salem on Saturday, Oct. 25 in RC's last home game of the regular season before the Maroons close out the regular season in Ashland, Va. on Oct. 28 against Randolph-Macon.

Last season, the Maroons finished with an 11-7 overall and 4-4 ODAC record, advancing the conference tournament quarterfinals. Roanoke returns second-team All-ODAC selection Kaylin Stenson and third-team All-ODAC Rebecca Schmidt.
