The Lead: Roanoke College came into their matchup with Wilson on a three-game win streak. Something had to give in Kerr Stadium as the Phoenix came into the game with a perfect, 7-0, record. RC dominated play in the first half while enjoying a 15-1 shot advantage. However, the lone Wilson shot went past the goalie and the visitors led, 1-0, at the break. The second half would be played to a 1-1 draw as Wilson picked up the 2-0 non-conference win.
Highlights:
- Half way through the first quarter, Wilson was able to dribble into the Maroon's circle for the first time and sent a backhander past the goalie to give the Phoenix a 1-0 lead.
- After the goal, Roanoke would attempt 15 shots the remainder of the first half but could not score the tying goal.
- The visitors from Chambersburg (Pa.) would turn the tables on the Maroons, out-shooting Roanoke 5-3 and adding to their lead.
- Trailing 0-2 in the final quarter, Roanoke would finally get on the board. On RC's 20th shot of the afternoon, Katherine Martin picked up a ball sent towards the goal by Krista DeModna and cut the deficit to 2-1.
- The final 10+ minutes of play would see Roanoke have a pair of chances but the shots by Martin and Emilee Wooten were turned aside as Wilson picked up the 2-1 win.
- Krista Nayadley recorded 14 saves to allow Wilson to maintain their advantage throughout.
- Hannah Roerden had a pair of saves in goal for the Maroons.
Up next: Roanoke is scheduled to play host to ODAC power University of Lynchburg on Wednesday night. The game with the Hornets is scheduled for 7:00pm and will start after the conclusion of the Roanoke women's soccer match with Randolph College.
