Roanoke Earns NFHCA NCAA DIII National Academic Team Award

The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced their National Academic Team Awards on Monday afternoon. Roanoke College was named one of 148 schools to earn that distinction.

The NFHCA National Academic Team Award recognizes programs that earned a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the fall semester of the current academic year. The Roanoke College field hockey team posted a 3.10 team grade point average for the fall term.

Late last week, the NFHCA announced their 2021 Scholars of Distinction. This year, more than 500 student-athletes have been recognized as NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction. The Scholars of Distinction program recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.9 or higher through the first semester of the 2021-22 academic year. Peyton Bradford, Hannah Bunten, Abby McCuskerand Claudia Roncone were all honored as Scholars of Distinction.

Previously the organization released their National Academic Squad. Over 2,300 student-athletes from 161 Division III institutions have been named to the 2021 NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad. The NFHCA National Academic Squad program, sponsored by OPA Winning Teams, honors collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher through the first semester of the current academic year, and were nominated by their NFHCA member coach. Bradford, Bunten, McCusker, and Roncone were joined as honorees by Krista DeModna, Caroline Diehl, Claire Eisenhart, Emily Gabrielian, Hope Keller, Katherine Martin, Lauren Roth, Tess Taloumis, Emilee Wootenand Alexis Wright giving the Maroons 14 members of the National Academic Squad.
