The Short Story: The Roanoke College field hockey team played its final regular-season game on the road at Lynchburg, falling 5-2 to the Hornets. The Maroons will need to wait to find out after games on Friday and Saturday around the ODAC before they figure out who they will be playing in the first round of the ODAC Tournament next week.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Maroons got on the scoreboard first in the 6th minute when Marth Hurley dunked the ball over to Grace Vernarelli for the goal and the 1-0 lead.
  • Lynchburg responded with three straight goals stretching into the second half before Vernarelli scored her second goal of the contest at 36:42 to pull the Maroons back within two at 4-2.
  • The Hornets responded with a goal just over a minute later to extend its lead back to three at 37:58.
  • Neither team scored in the final quarter as the Hornets held on for the 5-2 win.
