Men's Basketball Continues to Climb in Top-25

The men's basketball team is ranked #18 in this week's D3Hoops Top-25 Poll announced this morning. The Maroons are 13-1 on the season and are undefeated in the ODAC with a 5-0 mark. The 12-game win-streak, the 13-1 start and the 5-0 start in the ODAC are all the best marks since the 1999-00 season.
Roanoke, who earned its highest ranking since the 2000-01 season (11/25/00 #15), received 182 points to move up four spots from last week's #22 ranking. The Maroons are the only ODAC conference team to be ranked but are joined by ODAC-foe Randolph-Macon who received 13 votes.
The three-time 2008-09 ODAC Player of the Week Curtis Peery paces the Maroons with 19.7 ppg, 7.9 rpg, and 86% free-throw percentage. He has had three-straight double-doubles in the last three outings. Senior Drew Gaeng leads the team with 38 assists and is second on the team with 19 steals. He has also drained 19 three pointers, the second highest on the team. Parrish Walker is third in scoring (10.5 ppg), second in assists (35) and leads the team with 31 steals.
The Maroons went 2-0 last week as they defeated Emory & Henry (101-86) Jan. 7 along with the highlighted win against Eastern Mennonite, erasing a 16-point deficit to defeat the Royals 80-77 in ODAC action. Peery and Walker both recorded over 20-points in against the Wasps. Logan Singleton scored a career-best of 16-points against E&H. Melvin Felix also notched a career-high 25 points in the victory over the Royals.
Roanoke will host Bridgewater on Wednesday, Jan. 14 at the Bast Center. The Maroons hold a 99-31 series advantage over the Eagles, winning the last seven meetings. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
