Roanoke (7-8, 3-4 ODAC) will be on the road this Saturday to Harrisonburg to take on Bridgewater at Nunninger Hall. The Eagles boasts a 6-10 overall record, 2-5 in the ODAC. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Series Information
Roanoke holds a 100-32 series lead since 1918-19. The Maroons are 48-18 against the Eagles in the Div. III era, 33-12 under Page Moir (since 1989). RC holds an 8-1 mark against Bridgewater since 2005. The Eagles broke an eight-game skid with a 80-62 victory over the Maroons last winter.
Scouting the Eagles
Bridgewater, who is 4-5 at home this season, recently defeated Hampden-Sydney, 53-48 on Jan. 15. They fell to nationally-ranked Eastern Mennonite, 85-65 this past Wednesday. Five of their six wins have come by six points or less.
Rick Maloney leads the Eagles in scoring (13.9 ppg), rebounding (8.3 rpg) and blocked shots with 17. Kyle Hammond (11.6 ppg) averages 3.9 rebounds and two assists per game while leading the squad with 31 three-pointers. Ronnie Thomas (5.3 ppg) posts team-bests of 25 steals and 40 assists.
About the Maroons
Roanoke looks to return to .500 on the season with a win over the Eagles. They own a 3-1 record on the road this season and look to avoid a two-game skid with a win Saturday. While getting to the line 25 times a game (second in the ODAC), the Maroons are 10th in free-throw percentage (64%). RC is second in assists per game (15.1 apg) and steals per game (9.1 spg).
Melvin Felix (Caguas, Puerto Rico, Salem) (16.9 ppg) is fourth in the ODAC in scoring and fifth in three-point percentage (41.7%). He leads the Maroons in steals (26), assists (38), three-pointers (30) and free-throw percentage (75.8%). Kwasi Amponsah (Woodbridge, VA, Garfield) (9.9 ppg) is tied with Felix for first on the team in steals with 26. He is second in assists (33) while averaging 3.1 rebounds per game.
Jack Hamilton (Arlington, VA, St, Stephen's St. Agnes), coming off a career-high 18 point performance vs. Randolph, averages 8.4 points and 3.9 boards a game. He is shooting 51.4% from the floor this season. Logan Singleton (Roanoke, VA, Hidden Valley) (8.2 ppg) leads the team in blocked shots (11), rebounding (4.4 rpg) while second in the ODAC in field goal percentage (62.3%).
