Maroons Drop ODAC Contest to Washington and Lee on Wednesday
LEXINGTON - Despite overcoming a first half deficit, the Roanoke College men's basketball team fell 61-48 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action to Washington and Lee on Wednesday night.

Washington and Lee has won the last three meetings between the teams, however, Roanoke still holds an all-time record of 76-42 against the Generals.

Jordan Thacker led Roanoke (7-9; 0-7 ODAC) in scoring with 13 points and dished out a team high four assists. Kwasi Amponsah finished with 10 points. Amponsah now ranks 23rd in Roanoke's all-time scoring list, with 1,140 points. He is just 44 points shy of moving in to 22nd, passing Mike Baker (1,188). Daniel Eacho led the Maroons with eight rebounds, followed by Julian Ramirez who pulled down seven boards.

Julian Ramirez opened up the contest with four points for the Maroons, giving Roanoke a 4-1 lead. Over the next 10 minutes, the Generals went on a 20-6 run that put W&L up by 11, its largest lead of the half. However, Roanoke fought back, as Thacker knocked down a pair of threes to cut the deficit to six 24-18 with 5:47 to play. A few minutes later, Alexander Weant dropped in a layup, followed by treys from Amponsah and Thacker in the final minutes of the half. Zach Barrett hit a jumper at the buzzer to pull Roanoke within one, 34-33 as the teams entered the locker room.

The second half started slow for both teams, as the first point was scored four minutes into the period, with Thacker hitting a free throw to tie the game at 34-34. This opened up the scoring for the Maroons as Amponsah hit a layup, and Thacker hit another three pointer to put Roanoke up by five, its largest lead at that point in the game. Zach Barrett hit a jumper at 12:43 putting the Maroons up by two, but that would serve as Roanoke's final lead in the contest. The Generals outscored Roanoke 20-9 over the final minutes of the game, as the Maroons fell 61-48 in ODAC action.

Washington & Lee's J.D. Ey put together a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds, as he shot 6-10 from the field. Andrew Franz also scored 15 points on the evening, pulling down seven rebounds in the effort. Ey also had five blocks to his credit.

Washington and Lee (8-8; 3-4 ODAC) outshot Roanoke 38.9 to 30.6 percent from the field, while the Maroons held the edge from behind the arc 33.3 to 30 percent. The Generals narrowly held the advantage in rebounds 41-37 and the Maroons led in steals 11-7.

The Maroons return to action on Saturday, January 19th as they play host to ODAC opponent, Virginia Wesleyan. That game will also serve as Maroon Madness, with a tailgate, contests, prizes, and much, much more. The tailgate begins at 12:00 PM in the Bast Center parking lot, and the game is scheduled for a 2:00 PM tip-off.
