The Lead:Roanoke dropped a 71-63 decision to conference foe Virginia Wesleyan Sunday afternoon in Salem, Va.

How it Happened:

  • Roanoke was led by John Caldwell who had 21 points and C.J. Miles who had 15.  Josh Freund had a game-high nine rebounds, while Caldwell grabbed seven. 
  • Tim Jones tied Caldwell with a game-high 21 points and was one of three Marlins in double-figures. Keijon Honore added 18 points off the bench for VWC, while Andre Banks chipped in 12 of his own.
  • RC shot 42.9% for the game, making 21-of-49 shots from the floor. The Maroons were 15-of-24 from the foul line. VWC shot 40.7%, making 24-of-59 shots, including 11 three-pointers.
  • There were three ties and nine lead changes in the first-half. A Joey Miller jumper put RC up 21-20 with six minutes to go.  VWC closed the half with a 10-3 run to take a 30-24 lead into the locker room.
  • With the score tied at 36-36 early in the second-half, RC scored nine of the next 11 points, taking a nine point lead on  John Fitchett three-pointer that made the score 45-36.
  • With RC up 53-46 with nine minutes to play, VWC went on a 20-3 run and went up 66-56 on a three-pointer by Honore with three minutes to go in the game.

Up Next: Roanoke will be back in action on Dec. 10 when it travels to William Peace for a 2:00 p.m. games.
