Lynchburg Holds Off Shorthanded Roanoke For 89-87 OT Win

The Lead: Lynchburg held off a shorthanded Roanoke squad to a score a 89-87 overtime win over Roanoke Wednesday night in Salem. 

How it Happened 

  • Roanoke, who was without leading scorer John Caldwell (20.2 ppg.) due to illness, got 27 points from C.J. Miles. John Fitchett had 19 points and Caleb Jordan added 17. Fitchett also grabbed a team and career-high 10 rebounds.
  • Zack Burnett had 24 points for Lynchburg while Logan Seacrist and Connor Schroeder each had 14 and Lyndon White had 12.
  • The score was 18-18 with 8:27 to play in the first-half when RC scored seven unanswered points, taking a 25-18 lead on a Miles three-pointer.
  • LC scored eight of the next 11 points to cut its deficit to two at 28-26 before Miles knocked down two free-throws to push RC back in front 33-28 with 1:21 to go in the half. 
  • The Hornets scored the final three points of the half to send the teams to the locker room with RC up 33-31.
  • Lynchburg came out firing in the second-half and went on a 20-7 run to take a 56-43 lead following a Jay Allen three-pointer with just under 13 minutes to play.
  • LC led 74-64 with 4:15 to play and 79-73 with just over a minute to go. RC rallied and Fitchett hit a three-pointer to make it 79-76 Lynchburg with 22 seconds left.
  • Lynchburg then missed the front end of a one-and-one, Miles then scored a layup, got fouled and made the free-throw to tie the game with 16 seconds left. LC missed a three-pointer at the end of regulation.
  • With RC leading 83-82 in overtime, Chance Green drained a three-pointer to put LC in front 85-83 then tacked on two free-throws to push its lead to 87-83 with 1:43 to play.
  • After a Jordan layup with nine seconds left made it 88-87, LC made one of two free-throws to make it an 89-87 game.
  • Miles had a chance to win the game with a three-pointer at the buzzer by his shot rimmed out.
