The Lead:
Sixth-seeded Roanoke advanced to the Quarterfinal of the 2017 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Basketball Tournament with a 85-68 win over Randolph on Monday.

How it Happened

  • The Maroons, who earn their first ODAC Tournament win since 2013, advance to play third-seeded Emory & Henry on Thursday at the Salem Civic Center. Game time is slated for 8:00 p.m.
  • Roanoke got 20 points from John Caldwell, with 16 of those points coming in the second-half. C.J. Miles had 19 points, including 12 in the second stanza. Joey Miller and Josh Freund came off the bench to score 13 points and 10 points, respectively.
  • Randolph got 28 points from Reid Jacoby, while Ryan Fields had 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. 
  • RC shot 51.9% for the game, including a 60.9% in the second-half where it made 14-of-23 shots from the floor. Randolph was 45.3% for the game, but just 9-of-26 (34.6%) from the floor in the decisive second-half.
  • With the score tied 12-12 early in the first-half, RC scored eight straight points to go up 20-12 with 11:52 on the clock. RC led 25-16 before Randolph went on a 13-4 spurt, tying the game at 29-29 with 3:15 to play in the half.
  • Roanoke scored six of the next seven points to go up 35-30 before Randolph cut it to 37-36 at the intermission.
  • With the score tied at 42-42, Roanoke went on an 18-6  run capped by a Caldwell three-pointer that made the score 60-48 with 11:40 to play.
  • The WildCats battled back and cut the RC lead to 68-62 with just under six minutes to go but the Maroons responded with a 13-2 run to take a 81-64 lead with under two minutes to go.
