Josh Freund '19 Inks Deal With Maccabi Ashdod of Israeli Premier League

SALEM, Va. – Former Roanoke College Men's Basketball standout Josh Freund '19 has signed a contract to play professionally for Maccabi Ashdod of the Israeli Premier League.

A native of Charlotte, N.C., Freund played his final three seasons at Roanoke after transferring from Randolph following his freshman season. In total, Freund scored 1,415 points during his college career.

Freund was named First-Team All-ODAC, D3Hoops.com All-South Region, NABC All-District and First-Team All-State in each of his final two seasons with RC. Following his junior season, Freund was named the ODAC Player of the Year and became the program's first All-American since 1997. At the conclusion of this season, he was selected to take part in the prestigious Reese's NABC Division III All-Star Game.

"Josh has worked hard throughout his college career to reach his full potential and become as good as he can be," said Roanoke Head Coach Clay Nunley. "His signing with Maccabi Ashdod and the opportunity to play professional basketball is a reflection of that, and we couldn't be happier for him. He is deserving of this unique and noteworthy experience."

Maccabi Ashdod is a member of the 12-team Israeli Premier League and is led by former Radford University Head Coach Brad Greenburg.
