RC wins the 2019 Dick Leftwich Tip-Off Tournament

The Basics
Score: Roanoke 74, York 59
Records: Maroons 2-1 | Spartans 2-1
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: In the Championship game of the Dick Leftwich Tip-Off Tournament, the RC men kept the trophy in Salem as they bested York College 74-59.

How it Happened:

  • Tripp Greene made the Maroon's first three buckets in getting them off to a 6-3 early advantage. However, the Spartans would go a 5-0 surge to take their first lead of the afternoon.
  • Trailing 9-8, Kasey Draper hit a jumper to give the Maroons the lead for good as RC rattled off eight straight to seize control. York would hit a three ball but after that, Roanoke closed the half on a 20-7 run to take all the momentum into the locker room.
  • However, York would make a big second half push to get back in the game. With the Maroons lead cut to six, a Caleb Jordan layup and steal by Dillon Thomas would allow the home team to wrestle the momentum away for the Spartans. York would not go away quietly as they came all the way back to make it a one-point game with 8:57 left to play.
  • Efosa Edosomwan made the first two of RC's 16 made free throws down the stretch. Thomas would give the Maroons a double-digit lead with 6:30 to go and the Spartans would get no closer as Roanoke took the game and the tournament title.
  • Edosomwan would pace Roanoke with 19 points and nine rebounds while Draper added 15 and Jordan 14. Post player Ethan Rohan recorded game highs with 15 rebounds and three blocked shots.
  • For their efforts over the weekend, Thomas and Jordan were named to the All-Tournament Team with Jordan being named the Most Valuable Player.

Up next: RC will travel to face Pfeiffer on Tuesday night at 7:00pm.
