THE GAME FACTS

- The Short Story: The Roanoke men's basketball team held Salisbury scoreless for over eight minutes midway through the first half and pulled away late for a 22-point win over the Seagulls in the championship game of the 2022 Frankie Allen Tip-Off Tournament, 81-59. For their work in the tournament, Zach Rosenthal and Justin Kuthan were named to the All-Tournament Team with Kuthan receiving MVP honors.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Seagulls scored the first four points and led by as many as five at 11-6, but that is when the scoring drought took place. The Maroons held Salisbury scoreless from 15:03 until 6:50 while 14 points during the stretch, retaking the lead for good. The Seagulls scored only seven more points the rest of the half with the Maroons having the 33-19 lead at the break.
- Salisbury never got any closer than 10 points the rest of the way while the Maroons led by as many as 28 late in the game.
- In addition to Rosenthal and Kuthan, both Greg Bloodsworth and Jordan Oates from the Seagulls were named All-Tournament. Mike Schmidt from Alfred and Brett Asbury from Mary Baldwin, who faced off in the consolation game, were selected to the team as well.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Kuthan led all scorers in the first half with 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting. He also grabbed five rebounds. Joshua McClary was not far behind with seven points along with his own five rebounds for the Maroons in the first 20 minutes.
- As a team, Roanoke shot 48.1% from the floor in the opening period.
- Kasey Draper led the Maroons in scoring in the second half with 11 with Rosenthal hitting a trio of three-pointers in the final 20 minutes. In total 11 different Maroons scored in the second half, outpacing the Seagulls.
- Both teams hit seven three-pointers, and each had 35 rebounds. However, Roanoke led Salisbury in free throws (16-6), points off turnovers (26-11), points in the paint 38-26, fast break points (25-2), and bench points (47-26).

- The Maroons will have a few days rest over Thanksgiving break before hosting their ODAC opener against Bridgewater on November 30. Game time with the Eagles is scheduled for 7 p.m.
