Seven Men's and 10 Women's Teams Compete at Roanoke Invitational Challenge

Event: Roanoke Invitational Challenge
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: RC hosted six men's and nine women's teams in the Kerr-Cregger Fieldhouse on Saturday.

Women's Highlights:

  • The Roanoke women placed 7th in the 10 team field that included DI, DII, and DIII competition. College of Charleston paced the field with 147 points while the Maroons registered 36 points, seven clear of Mary Washington.
  • The 4x400 Relay team of Emily Ball, Lily Lippert, Hannah Koepfinger, and Eliza Ryan posted a final time of 4:11.95 to win the event by three and half seconds ahead of the quartet from UNC-Wilmington.
  • In the 1600 Sprint Medley Relay (SMR), Saja Alexander, Spencer Mann, Lauren Henson, and Ashley Brown recorded a time of 4:44.30, finishing third.
  • Lindsey Baxter just missed a top three when she secured fourth place points with a height of 10'11.75" in the Pole Vault.
  • The 200 Meters would see a sixth place effort by Alison Moreau while Jayna Jean-Jules measured 43'11.75" in the Weight Throw (7th).

Men's Highlights:

  • Kyle Bland bested the field by over three feet with a final distance of 49'11.75" in the Weight Throw.
  • The men equaled the women with a win in the 4x400 Relay. Xavier O'Brien, Sam Crawford, Brandon Justice, and Micah Ray went 3:29.63 for a three second win.
  • O'Brien and Peter Smith earned second place finishes in individual events. O'Brien finished just .02 seconds behind Zahier Pierson-Pace of Lenoir-Ryhne in the 60M Hurdles while Smith finished the 5000 Meters in 16:08.21.
  • Grant Williams, Blake Morin, Cliff Schwabauer, and Cameron Harris finished .60 seconds short of winning the 1600 SMR.
  • The RC men finished fourth in the seven team field that was won by Lenoir-Rhyne

Up next: Roanoke will once again be in action in the Kerr-Cregger Fieldhouse next week when they host the Noke Elite Meet on Saturday.
