Lisa Scruggs Named ODAC Player of the Week in Softball
For the first time in her career, senior Lisa Scruggs was named ODAC Softball's Player of the Week announced this week. It is the 23rd time a Maroon has garnered the weekly award and the first since last year, as Leona Rainey was voted on March 16, 2010.

Scruggs, a senior from Lynchburg, Va., helped the Maroons to four victories over the past week by hitting .500 (11-for-22). She had four multi-hit games, including a pair of three-hit efforts. She went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, a double and three RBI in the Maroons' 9-5 win over Wilson. She followed that up with a second 3-for-4 day with three more runs, a double, her second homer of the week, and four RBI in a 13-1 triumph over Methodist. For the week, she scored 10 runs to go with two doubles, two homers and 11 runs batted in.

The Maroons opened the 2011 season winning four of their first six games. They split four games in the Early Bird Invitational hosted by Methodist University. The only two losses over the weekend came against then #11 Salisbury and #9 Christopher Newport. RC swept Methodist, 13-1 and 13-5 on Sunday to finish the week.

The women are back on the road next weekend as they go to Virginia Beach to compete in the Beach Blast Tournament on March 4-5. They will have a rematch with #9 Salisbury to open the weekend followed by Washington (MD), Rowan and in-state foe Shenandoah.
