Maroons Drop Game Two in Championship Series

The Basics
Score: Randolph Macon 4, Roanoke 3

Records: Yellow Jackets 38-8, Maroons 27-12

Location: Roanoke, Va.

The Lead: The Maroons faced the No.10 Randolph Macon in their best of three series for the ODAC Championship. Roanoke dropped game two in the best of three series against Randolph Macon. The Yellow Jackets took the lead in the top of the second and the Maroons answered quickly to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth. The Yellow Jackets were able to bring in two more runs in the top of the sixth to take the win.

Highlights:

  • Makayla Austin led off the bottom of the third with a double down the right field line and moved to third off a SAC bunt from Rachel Sirbaugh. Austin was able to score off a deep fly ball to right field.
  • With singles by Adriana Rivera and Molly Epperson to start the bottom of the fourth the Maroons were able to put runners on first and second. Kate Houle laid down a SAC bunt to move the runners to second and third. Rivera then scored on a deep fly ball to left center field.
  • In the bottom of the fifth Austin doubled into right field to put a runner in scoring position. Bostic would follow with a single into left field which would allow for the run to score and for the Maroons to take the lead.
  • The Yellow Jackets added two more runs in the top of the 6th which would eventually lead to their victory over the Maroons.
  • Austin went two for two with two doubles.
  • Epperson went two for three.

Up next: Roanoke finished their season with 27 wins and the No.1 seed in the ODAC. The Maroons will now wait for the NCAA selection show next week to see if they receive a bid to the postseason.
