Softball Sweeps Virginia Intermont
SALEM, VA--- Roanoke swept Virginia Intermont in non-conference action, 7-4, 11-5 on Thursday at the Moyer Sports Complex. The Maroons improved their record to 15-3, 2-0 in ODAC-play, while the Cobras dropped to 10-8 on the season.

Roanoke has now won 11-straight games. The women currently have seven batters hitting above .340, led by shortstop Sara Caudle (Irvington, VA, Lancaster) who is hitting .563.

In game one Virginia Intermont took an early 1-0 lead when Kelli Porter scored on a Roanoke error. The Maroons responded in the bottom half of the inning when Cauddle hit a SAC-fly to center field to score Leona Rainey (Sandston, VA, Mills Godwin), who led off with a single. 

Lis Norwich (Hegins, PA, Tri-Valley)
began the second inning with a leadoff homerun to give the Maroons the lead for good. After a fly-out to shortstop, Rainey picked up her second hit of the afternoon with a single to third. Devon Briney (Folsom, CA, Oak Ridge ) then doubled her in to give the home team a 3-1 advantage.

In the top of the third, Porter led off with a single for the Cobras. She then stole second and third before Heather Oddle brought her around with an RBI-single. Roanoke scored two runs in the bottom half off a bases –loaded walk to Norwich and a wild pitch to make it 5-2.

Virginia Intermont would cut the deficit as close as one off a two-run homer by Oddle in the top of the sixth. Roanoke bounced back in the later part of the inning on a two-run double by Briney that put the game out of reach. 

Porter led the Cobras, finishing 3-for-4 from the plate with two stolen bases and a run. Haley Oddle added two hits and two RBI's on the game. Heather Oddle homered and drove in two on the contest.

Rainey paced the Maroons, going 2-for-3 and scoring three runs on the afternoon. Briney added two hits and an RBI, while Norwich chipped in to RBI's. 

Abigail Rexrode (Fincastle, VA, James River)
relieved Gretchen Wolfe (New Windsor, NY, Newburgh Free Academy) to pick up the win and improve to 4-0 on the year for Roanoke. Kristen Dyer recorded the loss for Virginia Intermont, falling to 4-2 on the season.

VIC took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first of game two as well. HA. Oddle singled in Porter to take the lead. RC took the lead for good in the bottom of the inning pouring in three runs. Rainey and Alea
Bier
led off with back-to-back singles before Hollee Warlitner cleared the bases with a three-run homerun.

Warlitner hit her second bomb of the game, a two-run shot, scoring Bier in the bottom of the second. The homer was her team-best third of the season. Rachel Cook responded with a homerun of her own in the top of the third for Intermont to cut the lead to 5-2.

Stephanie Clark (Nathalle, VA, Halifax)
hit a two-run single to score Norwich and Felice Lowery (Madison Heights, VA, Lynchburg Christian) in the home half of the third. Rainey then doubled to score Clark and push the lead back to 8-2.

The Cobras put three runs across the plate in the top of the fifth off a single by Porter, a passed ball and a Roanoke error. The Maroons capped the scoring off with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, getting an RBI-single from Norwich and an RBI-double from Lowery to give the final score of 11-5.

Porter led the way for Virginia Intermont, going 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. HA. Oddle added a hit and two RBI's.

Warlitner finished 2-for-4 with five RBI's and two homeruns on the game. Lowery, Norwich, Cauddle, Bier, and Rainey all chipped in two hits each. 

Rexrode picked up her second win of the day to improve to 5-0 on the season, while Melissa Hudgins took the loss for VIC.

Roanoke returns to action Sunday March 20th as they host Meredith College. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
