Softball Swept by Bridgewater, Ends 13-Game Winning Streak
BRIDGEWATER, Va--- Roanoke was swept by Bridgewater, 3-0 and 6-5. The Maroons fell to 17-5, 2-2 in ODAC-play, while the Eagles improved to 16-5, 6-2 in the conference. RC was scheduled to play Sweet Briar today, but the game was rescheduled for April 17th due to inclement weather.

The loss snapped a 13-game winning streak for the Lady Maroons.

Bridgewater took an early, 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Heather Jenkins helped her own cause with a lead-off single to start the inning. After a strikeout, Hillary Rees then hit a two-run shot to center field.

The Eagles added an insurance run in the bottom half of the third inning. Emily Morris led off with a double to right center and later scored on a Sarah Heretick RBI-single. The Maroons got runners in scoring position in the fifth and seventh innings, but couldn't capitalize as Jenkins escaped both jams unscathed.

Hollee Warlitner (Clifton Forge, VA, Alleghany)
paced Roanoke in game one, going 2-for-3 on the contest. Emily Morris went 2-for-3 from the plate for Bridgewater.

Gretchen Wolfe (New Windsor, NY, Newburgh Free Academy)
took the loss for the Maroons (6-3), allowing all three runs on 2.2 innings of work.   Abigail Rexrode (Fincastle, VA, James River) entered in relief to pitch a perfect 3.1 innings, allowing no hits and no runs, while walking none.

Jenkins picked up the win on the hill for the Eagles, throwing a complete-game shutout and allowing just six hits, while striking out eight.

In game two, Bridgewater took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of third off an RBI-groundout from Aven Thomas and an RBI-single from Emily Morris.

Roanoke responded in the top of fourth, as they sent three runs across the plate to regain the
lead. Sara Caudle (Irvington, VA, Lancaster) led off with a single to right center. Two batters later, Felice Lowery (Madison Heights, VA, Lynchburg Christian) doubled to advance Caudle to third.  Caudle then scored on an error that Lis Norwich (Hegins, PA, Tri-Valley) reached on. Stephanie Clark (Nathalle, VA, Halifax) then followed with a two RBI-single to put the Maroons up one.

Bridgewater took the lead back in the top of the fifth on a two-run home run by Morris.

The Maroons clawed their way back in the game when Lowery walked to lead off the sixth and later scored on an error to make it 4-4. RBI's from Drew Rutledge and Kristen Combs in the bottom half of the frame gave the Eagles a two-run advantage.

After Lisa Scruggs (Madison Heights, VA, Holy Cross) scored on an error to make it a one-run ballgame, Warlitner and Caudle advanced to second and third to set the scene for a dramatic ending.  Lowery then went down on strikes to end the game.

Rees led the way for the Eagles, going 3-for-4 and Morris finished 2-for-3 with three RBI's on the game.
Leona Rainey (Sandston, VA, Mills Godwin) and Caudle both went 2-for-4 on the afternoon, while Clark added two RBI's.

The Maroons return to action Saturday, April 2nd as they travel to Lynchburg for more ODAC-action. Game-time is set for a 1:30 p.m. start.
