Roanoke Softball Takes Two on Sunday

Location: Clermont, Fla.

The Lead: Teresa Wagner allowed just one hit over six innings of work as Roanoke topped Mount Union 11-0 in Clermont, Fla.

How it Happened:

  • Wagner gave up a leadoff single in the bottom of the fourth inning and that would be the only base runner MU would have on the day. Wagner did not allow a run and struck out two in improving to 2-0.
  • Erin Forbes had three hits and drove in three runs for RC, while Taylor Carter, Taylor Sutherland and Becca Wenger each had two hits apiece. Katie Smith, Rachel Guilliams and Mattie Morris each drove in two runs for the Maroons.
  • RC went up 2-0 in the third inning behind RBI singles from Smith and Forbes before a Gulliams RBI single made it 3-0 in the fourth.
  • A Forbes RBI single in the fifth inning, made it a 4-0 game and the Maroons would erupt for seven runs in the sixth inning to go up 11-0 and put the game away.

Location: Clermont, Fla.

The Lead: Roanoke took its second game of the day with a 6-2 win over Catholic.  

How it Happened:

  • Forbes drove in three runs for the Maroons, while Kate Priester had three hits. Carter and Taylor Slate each had two hits as well.
  • Ruthie Williams went five innings in relief to pick up the win. She allowed five hits and struck out five to improve to 2-0 on the season.
  • In the Roanoke first inning, Carter reached on error and moved to second before stealing third. Forbes then doubled her home to make it a 1-0 game.
  • Priester singled with one out in the second inning then came around to score two batters later on a Carter double to make it 2-0.
  • With the score 3-0 in the sixth inning, RC put the game away with three runs. Forbes delivered a sacrifice fly, a Williams single made it 5-0 before Carter scored on a wild pitch to make it a 6-0 game.

Up Next: Roanoke will be back in action tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. when it takes on Monmouth then Misericordia at 10:30 a.m.
