The Lead: Roanoke scored 10 runs in the second inning en route to the five-inning win over Randolph in game two.

How it Happened:

  • Randolph took a 2-0 lead in the first inning scoring off an RBI from Lauren Morris and Brittany Campbell.
  • Roanoke responded with 11 runs in the next two innings as Ruthie Williams drove in one run in the bottom of the first with a single to right field to cut the lead to 2-1 Randolph.
  • Taylor Sutherland kicked off a big second inning with a single up the middle as the Maroons would record 10 runs off nine hits with two outs. Taylor Carter and Katie Smith hit back-to-back doubles to score three runs while Erin Forbes, Sutherland, Becca Wenger and Brooke Mason would hit four straight singles to tack on four more runs before Rachel Guilliams drove in the final run of the inning with a single to right center to put RC up 11-2.
  • In the third, Smith scored on a Randolph error before Briana Nardone hit a single plating Williams. RC would add the final run of the inning off a WildCat error.
  • The Maroons scored the final run of the game off a Nardone single through the left side to make it 15-2. 
  • Six different Maroons recorded two hits in the contest with Smith, Sutherland and Nardone each having two RBI. Williams moved to 3-1 on the season allowing only four hits in 5.0 innings of work while striking out two.
  • Maggie Goldberg (2-3) was credited with the loss giving up 11 runs, two earned, off 11 hits in 1.2 innings as Randolph committed four errors in the field.

The Lead: Roanoke dropped a 1-0 decision to Randolph in the conference opener for both teams in game one of Wednesday's doubleheader.

How it Happened:

  • Roanoke was held to four hits while Randolph scored the only run off nine hits. Four different Maroons recorded a hit in the contest while three WildCats recorded two hits with Dianne Davis tallying an RBI.
  • Teresa Wagner (5-1) took the the tough loss after allowing only one run off nine hits while striking out three in a complete game performance. Lindsey Chaney (5-2) earned the win allowing no runs in 7.0 innings. 
  • In the top of the second, Randolph got back-to-back singles from Lauren Morris and Becca Montgomery before Davis drove in Morris with a double to left center to what proved to be the game-winner. 
  • Roanoke's defense held strong, committing no errors and turning three double plays in the contest but the Maroons were unable to push a run across.
