Game 1

The Lead: Becca Wenger hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Maroons to a 3-2 win over the Hornets.

How it Happened:

  • Lynchburg took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second as Jessica Murphy lifted a sac fly to score Sarah Commons.
  • Roanoke responded in the bottom of the third as Wengner hit a lead-off triple before Rachel Guilliams plated Wenger with a sacrifice bunt to tie the game 1-1.
  • The Hornets took a one-run advantage in the fourth as Kayla St. John reached on an error to kick off the inning before Murphy and Skylar Dickens hit back-to-back singles, plating St. John.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, Mattie Morris hit a one-out double to center and Erin Forbes kept the inning going with a single off a bunt before stealing second. Wenger drove in both runners with a single to center, securing the 3-2 win.
  • Wenger led the Maroons going 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Dickens and Mackenzie Chitwood each recorded two hits for the Hornets.
  • Teresa Wagner (6-1) earned the win allowing only eight hits and two runs in the complete game performance. Connor English (5-4) was tabbed with the loss after giving up three runs off five hits.

The Lead:
Roanoke scored five runs in the sixth inning en route to 8-4 win over Lynchburg in Saturday's conference sweep.

How it Happened:

  • Roanoke jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings as Ruthie Williams plated Taylor Carter with a single to center in the bottom of the first. Guilliams followed suit with a two-out triple in the second inning scoring Wenger. 
  • Lynchburg closed the deficit to one in the third inning with a leadoff single from Murphy and an RBI single from Chitwood to make it a 2-1 game. 
  • In the top of the fifth, Taylor Marby hit a three-run homer over the left field fence to give LC a 4-2 advantage.
  • RC responded with one run in the bottom of the inning as a double from Wenger scored pinch-runner Elizabeth Rathbone to make it a 4-3 game.
  • Roanoke took the final lead with a five-run sixth inning as Carter reached on a walk and stole second before Katie Smith singled, plating Carter. Williams smacked a double to right center scoring Smith. Brooke Mason ripped a single to center to bring in two more runs for the Maroons before Guilliams closed out the scoring with a RBI single up the middle.
  • Roanoke was led by Williams and Mason who both went 3-for-4 at the plate. Williams, Mason and Guilliams recorded two RBI apiece. Chitwood and Coffey recorded two hits for the Hornets and Mabry led LC with three RBI.
  • Williams (4-1) earned the win going 2.0 innings allowing only one hit and Connor English (5-5) took the loss allowing four runs off five hits.
