RC Softball Drops a Pair of ODAC Games to Guilford on Wednesday

Game 1
The Basics
Score: Guilford 3, Roanoke 1
Records: Roanoke 16-7, 5-2 ODAC | Guilford 20-6, 5-2 ODAC
Location: Greensboro, N.C.  

The Lead: Makayla Crawford's pinch hit home run proved to be the difference as Guilford took game one 3-1 over the Maroons.

How it Happened:

  • Roanoke got on the board in the first inning when Taylor Carter walked to lead off the game, stole second and would move to third on a sacrifice bunt off the bat of Katie Smith.
  • Ruthie Williams then recorded a RBI ground out to bring in Carter and give RC the 1-0 lead.
  • The score stayed that way until the bottom half of the sixth inning when Guilford put a pair of runners on with two outs and Crawford delivered what proved to be the game-winning hit.
  • Teresa Wagner (6-2) took the loss in the circle for RC. She went 5.2 innings, gave up seven hits and the three-run homer to Crawford. Courtney Lackey (10-3) got the win for GC, allowing just four hits and one run.

 

Game 2

Score: Guilford 8, Roanoke 3
Records: Roanoke 16-8, 5-3 ODAC | Guilford 21-6, 6-2 ODAC
Location: Greensboro, N.C.  

The Lead: Guilford secured the ODAC doubleheader sweep with an 8-3 win in the nightcap.

How it Happened:

  • Roanoke jumped out to an early 3-0 lead behind a single run in the first inning then an Erin Forbes RBI double in the second inning that scored Rachel Guilliams and Becca Wenger.
  • GC rallied in the third inning scoring four runs on four hits and taking advantage of two Maroon errors to pull in front 4-3.
  • The Quakers padded their lead the following inning scoring three times, highlighted by a Sabrina Moreno single that scored two.
  • Makayla Carver allowed just three hits after the second inning to get the win and improve to 5-2. Taylor Asimakopoulos went 2.2 innings, giving up four runs on six hits, dropping her to 0-3 on the season.
