Roanoke Sweeps Shenandoah in Saturday Showdown

Game 1

The Basics

The Lead: Rachel Guilliams drove in Brooke Mason in the bottom of the eighth to lead the Maroons to a 1-0 win in game one.

How it Happened:

  • Mason was placed on second in the bottom of the eighth for the international tie breaker situation. Rachel Guilliams singled on a bunt to plate Mason and secure the win.
  • Emily Salsberry (2-1) earned the win pitching the final two innings allowing no runs or hits while walking two. Teresa Wagner allowed only two hits and struck out five in six innings of work.
  • Evie Raley and Becca Wenger both went 1-for-3 at the plate for the Maroons. Breanne Smith and Haley Koeninger each recorded a hit for SU as the Hornets were held to two hits for the game. 
  • The Maroons turned a double play to end the top of the eight to keep Shenandoah off the board in the ITB situation.
  • Katherine Seidl (3-10) was tabbed with the loss allowing one run off three hits in seven innings.


Game 2

Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke score a trio of runs in the first and fifth inning en route to the 7-1 win over SU to secure Saturday's sweep.

How it Happened:

  • Wenger put the Maroons on the board with a single to center to score Katie Smith. Guilliams followed suit for a two-out single to tack on two more runs and give RC a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
  • Taylor Carter kicked off the second inning with a single through the left side before Smith smacked a double to left, plating Carter to extend Roanoke's lead to 4-0.
  • Roanoke added three more runs in the fifth as Erin Forbes hit a double to score pinch-runner Scarlet Sisson followed by a triple from Guillliams to drive in Erin Forbes. Guilliams then scored on a Hornet error to make it a 7-0 game. 
  • Shenandoah scored its only run of the game in the top of the seventh as Koeninger reached on an error and was brought in by a Kristen Weadon single.
  • Guilliams led RC going 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBI. Taylor Asimakopoulous (2-2) earned the win allowing only three hits and one run in the complete game performance. 
  • Carrie Robinson fell to 2-2 allowing seven runs off eight hits in 4.1 innings of work.
 

Up Next: Roanoke hosts in-state rival Ferrum on Tuesday, April 4 at the Moyer Sports Complex. The doubleheader is slated for 5 p.m.
