Roanoke Softball Drops Doubleheader at E&H

Game 1

The Basics
Score:

Records: Roanoke 19-10, 7-4 ODAC | Emory & Henry 19-8, 5-5 ODAC
Location: Emory, Va.

The Lead: The Maroons were held to three hits as the Wasps took game one 1-0.

How it Happened:

  • E&H scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the second as Danielle Loving led off with a single, stole second and moved to third on a single from Rachel Smoot. Jordan Chrisley then lifted a sac fly to right, plating Loving for what held up to be the winning run.
  • Teresa Wagner (6-3) was tabbed with the loss allowing only one run off five hits while striking out four in six innings. Emily Kendrick (11-4) got the win allowing only three hits and no runs in seven innings.
  • Taylor CarterKatie Smith and Becca Wenger each recorded a hit for the Maroons.
  • Chrisley led the Wasps going 1-for-1 with a double and sac fly RBI. 

Game 2

Location: Emory, Va.

The Lead:  Roanoke was unable to erase a five-run Wasps' second inning as the Maroons fell 8-4 in game two.

How it Happened: 

  • After Emory & Henry took a 2-0 lead in the first, Roanoke responded with a pair of runs in the second sparked when Rachel Guilliams reached on an E&H error to kick off the inning.  Wenger singled up the middle and Brooke Mason forced another E&H error on a sac bunt as Guilliams scored on the error to make it a 2-1 game. 
  • Taylor Asimakopoulos kept the inning going with a RBI ground out, scoring Wenger to even the score 2-2.
  • Emory & Henry responded with five runs in the bottom of the second highlighted by a grand slam from Loving. Caley Hodge tacked on another run in the fourth with an RBI to make it 8-2 E&H.
  • Taylor Carter closed the deficit with a two-run homer in the fifth to make it 8-4, but Roanoke was unable to push another run across in the final innings. 
  •  Katie Smith went 2-for-4, while Carter recorded a team-high two RBI. Loving and Hodge each tallied four RBI for E&H.
  • Asimakopoulos fell to 1-4 on the season allowing six runs off two hits in 1.2 innings. Tiffany Cole moved to 8-4 on the season allowing four runs off six hits in 5.0 innings.
