The Lead: No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to take game one of Saturday's doubleheader.

How it Happened:

  • Virginia Wesleyan got on the board in the first inning as Cassetty Howerin lifted a sac fly to center field to plate Kiersten Richardson and take a 1-0 lead. 
  • Roanoke responded with two runs in the fifth as Rachel Guilliams reached on a Marlin error before Taylor Carter singled to center and Katie Smith kept the inning going with a two-out walk. Ruthie Williams then reached on a Marlin error scoring Carter and Guilliams to give Roanoke a 2-1 advantage.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, Virginia Wesleyan had a lead-off single from Howerin and Blake Henderson reached on an error before Hanna Hull hit a two RBI single to earn the 3-2 walk-off win.
  • Teresa Wagner (6-4) took the loss after giving up three runs off three hits in 6.1 innings. Hull (17-1) earned the win giving up only four hits and two runs in the complete game performance.
  • Four different Maroons recorded hits and three different Marlins recorded hits in game one.

The Lead: Roanoke dropped an 8-0 decision to Virginia Wesleyan in game two of Saturday's doubleheader.

How it Happened:

  • Guilliams went 1-for-1 and Taylor Slate went 1-for-2 for the Maroons. Madison Glaubke went 2-for-2 with three RBI and Kaylah Duplain recorded two RBI for the Marlins.
  • Taylor Asimakopoulos dropped to 1-5 on the season giving up eight runs off six hits in 2.1 innings. Courtney Wright moved to 13-0 giving up only two hits in five innings.
  • Virginia Wesleyan took a 5-0 lead in the first inning highlighted by a pair of singles from Liz Bailey and Howerin and a triple from Glaubke.
  • After a scoreless second inning, the Marlins tacked on three more runs in the third with a two-out double from Jessica Lindsay, a two RBI single from Duplain and a RBI single from Richardson to make it a 8-0 game.
