Game 1

The Basics
Score: Roanoke 3, Bridgewater 2
Records: Roanoke 20-13, 8-7 ODAC | Bridgewater 8-23, 3-12 ODAC
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke topped Bridgewater 3-2 in the opening game of the ODAC doubleheader.

How it Happened

  • Roanoke's Teresa Wagner and Bridgewater's Carolyn Campbell locked up in a pitchers dual with neither allowing a run over the first four and a half innings.
  • In the Roanoke fifth inning, the Maroons loaded the bases with two outs and Katie Smith tripled to score Erin Forbes, Brooke Mason and Taylor Sutherland to make a 3-0 game.
  • Bridgewater rallied in the next half inning getting a pair of runs to cut its deficit to 3-2.
  • That would be as close as the Eagles would get as Emily Salsberry tossed a perfect 1.1 innings of relief to pick up the save.
  • Wagner got the win to improve to 7-4 on the season. Wagner allowed just six hits and two runs, while striking out five.
  • Taylor Carter led RC with a pair of hits in the win.

Game 2

Score: Roanoke 9, Bridgewater 1 (5 inns.)
Records: Roanoke 21-13, 9-7 ODAC | Bridgewater 8-24, 3-13 ODAC
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke used 10 hits and took advantage of four Bridgewater errors to sweep the ODAC doubleheader with a 9-1 win.

How it Happened

  • After a Mikal Guard homer in the first inning staked Bridgewater to an early 1-0 lead, RC got the run right back when Carter singled to open the inning, stole second, moved to third on a fly ball and scored to tie the game on an RBI groundout by Smith.
  • Carter got things going again in the third by singing, stealing second and going to third on a sacrifice bunt. Smith singled Carter home to make it 2-1. Smith stole second before Ruthie Williams doubled Smith home to give RC a 3-1 lead.
  • Roanoke broke the game open in the fourth inning scoring four times on three hits and aided by two BC errors. Carter, Evie Raley and Williams all had RBI hits for the Maroons as they extended their lead to 7-1.
  • RC closed the game out in the fifth, taking advantage of two BC errors to score a pair of runs.

Up Next: Roanoke will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Eastern Mennonite at 1:00 p.m.
