The Lead: Roanoke scored four runs in the fifth inning to take an ODAC win over Eastern Mennonite on Saturday.

How it Happened

  • Roanoke's Teresa Wagner and EMU's Lauren Seale locked up in a pitchers dual allowing a combined six hits over the first four and a half innings of play.
  • In the RC fifth inning, Becca Wenger walked to start the inning then was lifted for a pinch runner in Scarlett Sisson who stole second.  Brooke Mason then delivered an RBI single to give RC the only run it would need.
  • Mason moved to second on groundout and scored on an Erin Forbes single to make it 2-0.
  • Katie Smith then followed Forbes with a triple to score a pair and give RC a 4-0 advantage.
  • Those would be the only runs Wagner would need as she went the distance, allowing just six hits in improving to 8-4 on the season. Seale dropped to 8-6, giving up six hits and four runs.
  • Smith finished with two hits in the game for RC.

The Lead: Roanoke earned the sweep of the ODAC doubleheader with a 4-1 win over Eastern Mennonite.

How it Happened

  • Eastern Mennonite took a 1-0 lead in the top of third inning when Alex Sheets singled up the middle to plate Dallas Crawford.
  • RC tied the game up in the next half inning when Taylor Carter singled and stole second with two outs. She then scored on an EMU error to tie the game at 1-1.
  • Cater got things going in the decisive fifth inning when she doubled to open the inning, moved to third on a ground out and scored on an infield single by Ruthie Williams.
  • Later in the inning Wenger singled to score Williams and Smith to make it a 4-1 ball game.
  • Williams and Emily Salsberry combined to allow just four hits to the Royals. Williams went 4.2 innings before giving way to Salsberry who pitched 2.1 innings of relief to pick up the win and improve to 3-1.

Up Next: Roanoke will be back in action on April 22 when it travels to Randolph-Macon for an ODAC doubleheader starting at 1:30 p.m.
