The Lead: Randolph-Macon scored in the bottom of the sixth to take a 1-0 decision over Roanoke in game one.

How it Happened:

  • Erin Forbes and Taylor Sutherland each recorded a game-high two hits. Kerstin Roth, Harley Jones and Jen Balcom each tallied a hit for the Yellow Jackets as RC allowed only three hits in the contest.
  • Teresa Wagner (8-5) was tabbed with the loss allowing only one run off three hits in 6.0 innings. Candace Whittemore (16-3) earned the win with the shutout, allowing seven hits in 7.0 innings.
  • After five scoreless innings, Jones hit a double to right to kick off the sixth inning before moving to third and scoring on a passed ball for what proved to be the game-winner.
  • Forbes kept the Maroons alive with a two-out single in the top of the seventh but Randolph-Macon forced a fly-out for the final out the game.

The Lead: R-MC scored nine runs in the fifth to take a 12-5 win over Roanoke in game two.

How it Happened:

  • Roanoke jumped to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first as Katie Smith hit a two-out double to right field. Smith moved to third and scored off a R-MC error. Taylor Sutherland kept the inning going with a single before Becca Wenger drew a walk to bring in Ruthie Williams.
  • Randolph-Macon scored three runs in the second inning with a lead-off homer from Skylar Toth and a two-run home run from Shelby Hill to take a 3-2 lead.
  • In the fourth, Williams smacked a two RBI single up the middle followed by a RBI single from Rachel Guilliams to make it a 5-3 game.
  • Randolph-Macon went on to score nine runs in the fifth to secure the win, highlighted by a three-run home run for Hill and a three RBI double from Jones.
  • Katie Smith went 2-for-2 with two doubles and Williams tallied a team-high three RBI. For R-MC, Hill went 2-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI and Jones went 2-for-3 with five RBI. 
  • Emily Salsberry was credited with the loss in 4.1 innings, allowing six runs off nine hits. Whittemore earned the win allowing two hits in 3.0 innings.

Up Next: Roanoke closed out the regular season today and will wait to see the seedings for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament slated to begin on April, 28 at the Moyer Complex in Salem.
