The Basics

Game 1 
Score: Roanoke 6 | Bridgewater 0
Records: Roanoke 17-12, 4-3 ODAC | Bridgewater 13-10, 1-2 ODAC
Location: Bridgewater, Va. 

The Lead: Four Maroons tallied two hits each as Roanoke shut out Bridgewater 6-0 in game one. 

How it Happened:

  • In the top of the second, Becca Wenger singled with two outs and Anna Clowdis walked to put runners on first and second. Taylor Carter then hit a double to left scoring both Wenger and Clowdis to make it a 2-0 game.
  • Emily Salsberry retired the side in the bottom of the second and Clowdis reached on an Eagle error to kick off the top of the third. Clowdis moved to second on a wild pitch and made it to third on a groundout from Mattie Morris before Kate Priester drove her in with a single to make it 3-0.
  • Morris led off the sixth with a double to left before Wenger drove in her pinch runner, Scarlett Sisson, with two outs to extend the lead to 4-0.
  • The Maroons tacked on a pair of runs in the top of the seventh highlighted by a leadoff walk from Carter, a single from Katie Smith and an RBI double form Morris.
  • Smith, Clowdis, Morris and Wenger all recorded two hits while Carter had a game-high two RBI and Morris had two doubles.
  • Salsberry allowed only five hits in the shutout while striking out five in the complete game performance.

Records: Roanoke 18-12, 5-3 ODAC | Bridgewater 13-11, 1-3 ODAC
Location: Bridgewater, Va. 

The Lead: A six-run second inning led the Maroons to a 9-0 five-inning victory to close out the doubleheader. 

How it Happened: 

  • Roanoke scored six runs in the top of the second inning highlighted by back-to-back RBI singles from Kendall Penn and Becca Wenger to make it 2-0.
  • With two outs later in the inning, Taylor Carter hit an RBI double followed by two straight RBI infield singles from Katie Smith and Anna Clowdis. Ruthie Williams closed out the scoring with an RBI single to take a 6-0 edge.
  • In the fifth, Mattie Morris hit a double down the left field line to put runners on second and third. Kate Priester lifted a sacrifice fly to score pinch runner Olivia Simmons to make it 7-0. The Maroons tacked on the final two runs off an Eagles error and an RBI single from Allison Wagner to secure the five-inning win.
  • Teresa Wagner earned the win allowing only three hits in the shutout performance while striking out six.
  • For BC, Keirsten Kennedy was tabbed with the loss going 1.2 innings and giving up six runs off six hits.
