Softball Shuts Out Randolph

The Basics

Game 1
Score: Roanoke 3, Randolph 0

Location: Lynchburg, Va.

The Lead: Emily Salsberry tossed a complete game shutout to lead Roanoke to a 3-0 win in game one.

How it Happened

  • Salsberry allowed just three hits in going the distance. She struck out three, walked two and did not allow an extra base hit.
  • Taylor Carter gave Salsberry the only run she would need when she scored in the first at-bat of the game off a single followed by a Randolph error to take an earl 1-0 lead. 
  • Later in the first inning, Anna Clowdis was hit by a pitch and came around to make it 2-0 on a Mattie Morris double.
  • Carter doubled to score Allison Wagner to push RC's lead to 3-0 in the second inning.
  • Carter finished 3-for-3 with two doubles and a run scored. Morris and Taylor Asimakopoulos had the other two hits for RC.
  • Gracyn Allen-Ingle took the loss in the circle for Randolph after going the distance and allowing three runs on five hits.

Location: Lynchburg, Va. 

The Lead:  Roanoke scored three runs in the fifth inning, behind a two-RBI double from Becca Wenger, to earn the second game win and take the doubleheader.

How it Happened:

  • Kate Priester reached second on a Randolph error start off the top of the fifth. A single from Bailey Perdue moved Priester to third. Wenger then hit a double to left scoring both Priester and Perdue to break the game open with a 2-0 lead.
  • Scarlett Sisson replaced Wenger on second as a pinch runner and was moved to third on a groundout from Samantha Baldwin. Carter reached on an error and Sisson scored to extend it to 3-0.
  • In the circle, Teresa Wagner went the distance allowing only three hits in the shutout performance while striking out one.
  • Perdue went 2-for-2 with a run scored while Wenger tallied a team-high two RBI.
  • For Randolph, Lindsey Chaney was tabbed with the loss giving up three runs off six hits in seven innings. 

Up Next: Roanoke travels to Lynchburg on Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader with the Hornets.
