The Lead: For the third time this season, Roanoke was scheduled to travel to Greensboro to face the Pride in a non-conference double header. Roanoke would take a 4-3 lead into the late innings of the opener and after adding a run in the sixth, closed out the 5-3 win. In game two, the Maroons had a 1-0 lead but the Pride would score two in the bottom of the second and hold on throughout for the 2-1 win.

How it Happened:

  • Top of the fourth would see Shanan Hester double down the left field line and advanced on a Jada Karnes ground out. Makayla Austin delivered a base hit to bring Hester home for a 1-0 advantage.
  • Roanoke appeared to put the game away with three more runs in the fifth. Meri Bostic reached on an infield single before Rebecca Hensley singled up the middle to set the table for the Maroons. Brooke Trapuzzano drove in a pair with a triple to right center and a Rachel Sirbaugh double made it a 4-0 lead for Roanoke.
  • However, Greensboro would answer with three runs of their own in the bottom half to close the gap to 4-3.
  • RC would add an insurance run in the sixth when Austin singled and was replaced by Morgan Clark to pinch run. Clark was able to advance to third on a Jordyn DiFava bunt and scored on a throwing error off a Bostic pop up.
  • Karnes would do the rest by recording six of the final seven batters she faced. Karnes ran her season record to 8-0 with a six hit, three run (all unearned), four strikeout, complete game.
  • Austin was 2-3 with an RBI while Hensley went 2-4, scoring one run. Trapuzzano went 1-2 with two walks and two RBI.
