Roanoke Splits Pair On The Road At Guilford

The Basics
Game 1 

Score: Roanoke 8 | Guilford 0 (6 innings)
Records: Maroons 13-4 / 6-1 ODAC | Quakers 8-9 / 7-8 ODAC

The Lead: After traveling to Greensboro earlier in the week to face the Pride, Roanoke was back in the Gate City to face Guilford in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) double header on Saturday afternoon. Roanoke would make quick work of Guilford in game one, picking up the 8-0, six inning, shutout. However, the Quakers would rally in the second game with three, fourth inning, runs to avoid the sweep and earn a split with the Maroons, 5-3.

How it Happened:

  • Jada Karnes ran her regular season record to 9-0 with a six inning shutout. Karnes would scatter seven hits while recording nine outs via the strikeout.
  • The afternoon would get started with a Rebecca Hensley single followed by a Brooke Trapuzzano home run to right field to provide all the offense that Karnes would require.
  • In the top of the fifth, Lauryn Chappell led off with a base hit but was erased on Hensley's fielder's choice. Hensley stole second before Trapuzzano singled to put a pair on for Rachel Sirbaugh. Sirbaugh delivered a base hit to score Hensley and put runners on the corners. Karnes walked to load the bases.
  • Makayla Austin would plate Trapuzzano to add to the RC lead.
  • Back-to-back doubles by Shanan Hester and Sirbaugh would give the Maroons an 8-0 lead.
  • Chappell, Trapuzzano, Sirbaugh, and Hester would each record two hits. Trapuzzano had three runs while she, Hester, and Sirbaugh each knocked in two runs.

Game 2

Score: Roanoke 3 | Guilford 5
Records: Maroons 13-5 / 6-2 ODAC | Quakers 9-9 / 7-9 ODAC
Location: Greensboro, N.C.

How it Happened:

  • Roanoke would once again post first inning runs for the early advantage. A Sirbuagh single to center would bring home Hester and Trapuzzano.
  • Guilford would answer with one in the bottom half to cut the RC lead in half, 2-1.
  • The bottom of the fourth would see the Quakers take the lead for the first tim all afternoon. With the bases loaded, Guilford would lace a bases clearing double to take a 4-2 lead.
  • In the top of the sixth the Marrons would close the gap with a Kate Houle home run over the center field fence.
  • However, the Maroons would see their hosts plate another run in the bottom half and couldn't get a seventh inning rally started as they fell, 5-3.
  • Houle was 2-3 with an run and an RBI while Sirbaugh went 1-1 with two more RBI.

Up Next: Roanoke will play host to Lynchburg on Monday at the James Moyer Complex in a makup form a previously postponed double header due to weather. Game one is schedule for 5pm.
