The Lead: Roanoke traveled to Eastern Mennonite to wrap up the 2022 regular season. The Maroons would lead 4-2 and then 5-3. However, the Royals would tie the score at 5-5 and the game went into extra innings. Roanoke scored in the top half and kept the home team from crossing home in a 6-5, 8-inning, win. Game two was scoreless before the Maroons put up two in the fourth. That was all the scoring that they would need as a two-hit shutout from the circle would give Roanoke a season ending win, 2-0.
Highlights:
- Meri Bostic singled to start the afternoon. She would be erased on a Jordyn DiFava fielder's choice. With two outs, Rachel Sirbaugh singled. Kate Houle reached on an error to score DiFava and Sirbaugh crossed on a Riley Croghan base hit to put Roanoke in front. The Royals would answer with two in the bottom half to tie the game at two apiece.
- Morgan Clark singled and scored on a Bostic double. Bostic would come around to score on a Shanan Hester base hit to make it 4-2.
- After an Eastern Mennonite run, Roanoke would add to their tally when Bostic drove in Croghan and the score was 5-3. EMU would tie the game in the bottom of the fifth and after seven the score was tied at 5-5.
- Sirbaugh was placed on second to start the frame. After a Houle sacrifice bunt, Makayla Austin delivered, what proved to be, the game winning RBI with a single to right.
- Jada Karnes pitched all eight innings, giving up seven hits, five runs, and a pair of walks while striking out four. It was Karnes 18th win of the season. Bostic was 3-4 with a run and two RBI. Five different Maroons registered two hits apiece as Roanoke out-hit the Royals 16-7.
