Roanoke falls to Randolph-Macon, defeats Lynchburg in Women's Tennis
The Roanoke College women's tennis team fell to Randolph-Macon, 7-2 but defeated Lynchburg, 6-3 in two ODAC contests in a span of three days. The Maroons are now 7-4, 2-4 in the ODAC.
The women dropped a 7-2 decision to the Yellow Jackets in Ashland, Va. on Saturday, April 4. The only wins came in the #1 and #2 singles competition while the #3 and #4 slots went into a tiebreaker before falling in the third set.
Kelsey White won, 6-0, 6-1 in the top seeded spot while Kelsey Burke won a tight battle, 6-1, 6-7, 13-11 in the second-seeded singles match.
Kristin Nagy went into a third set with Karen-Anne McKewen but lost, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 in #3 singles. Julia Hausmann fell to Leslie Hainley, 7-5, 6-4 in #4 singles.
Against Lynchburg, the women won two tight three-set singles matches to earn a 6-3 victory at Lynchburg College Monday afternoon. The Maroons won matches at #2 and #4 singles by identical third-set scores of 10-8 to seal the victory.
Roanoke won the #1, #2, #3 and #6 singles matches to help win its second ODAC match of the season. White claimed scores of 6-1, 6-3 for the top-seed win while Burke defeated Elizabeth Eckert, 2-6, 7-5, 10-8 in a tight #2 singles match. Nagy won the #3 singles match, 6-1, 7-5 and Lucy Webb won the #6 slot with scores of 6-1, 6-1.
Caroline Hunter and Hausmann fell in three sets which required a tiebreaker to decide the individual matches in the #4 and #5 singles.
The combo of Burke and Ruth Condro defeated Lynchburg, 8-3 in #1 doubles while Hausmann and Webb claimed #3 doubles, 8-2. Hunter and Nagy fell in #2 doubles, 8-5.
The women will host Bridgewater this Thursday at Hollins University at 6:30 p.m. in ODAC Action.
