Women's Tennis Win First Match of Season

SALEM, Va. --- The Roanoke College women's tennis team defeated Averett Unviersity 8-1 on Saturday afternoon in their opening match of the season.

In singles, Roanoke won all but one match. Kelsey Burke earned one point for Roanoke with a victory in the number-two match 6-4, 7-5. The number-three through six matches all defeated their opponent to boost Roanoke to the victory.
Hayley Parker defeated Nina Marttila 6-3, 6-3 in the number-three spot and Lucy Webb won her number-four match 6-1, 6-1. In the number-five and six matches Julia Hausman won 7-5, 6-2 and Christa Aiken won 6-1, 6-4.
Roanoke also won all three of their doubles matches. Kelsey White and Kristen Nagy won 8-4 while Burke and Erin Burnop (8-1) along with Caroline Hunter and Ruth Condro (9-8) earned two more points for the Maroons.
The Maroons will be travel to Ferrum on Tues, Feb. 23 for more non-conference action. Match time is set for 4:00 pm.
