Hilton Head, SC--- The Maroons women's tennis team split their first two matches to open the 2010 season. Roanoke won its first match against St. John Fischer, 7-2, but lost to Mercyhurst in a 9-0 final.
Laura Dodson (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring)won a great match in #1 singles, defeating St. John Fischer's Elena Vahl 6-0,6-7, (3-7), 10-7 while joining forces with Corbin Leitch (Richmond, VA, Steward School)in #1 doubles to secure a 8-2 victory. In #2 doubles, Roanoke's Kelsey White (Providence, RI, Wheeler)and Kristin Nagy (Torrance, CA, Torrance High School)teamed up to win 8-5.
In the second #1 singles match of the afternoon, Dodson lost a hard fought match 6-4, 6-1 to Mercyhurst's Kim Ezzo. Leitch in #3 singles put up a good effort in a back in forth match only to fall in the third set.
The Maroons will be back in action on March 9th when they host Mary Baldwin College in the 2010 home opener.
