Laura Dodson named Women's Tennis ODAC Player of the Week
Freshman Laura Dodson (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) was named ODAC Player of the Week for women's tennis announced this afternoon. It is the first Roanoke player in over five years to receive the weekly honor.
Last year's River Ridge Player of the Year in the local area, Dodson went 2-0 in #1 singles, knocking off Meghan Mathis, 6-3, 6-4 at Bridgewater. She suffered a stomach flu virus, but continued to play through the entire match, also claiming a win in #1 doubles as well, 8-6, with teammate, Corbin Leitch.
Against Randolph-Macon, a healthy Dodson went flawless for the day. She swept through her singles match, 6-0, 6-0 and cruised to an 8-0 victory in the doubles match.
For the year, she is 9-3 overall in both #1 singles and doubles play, 5-2 against ODAC competition. She has won three-straight and eight of her last 10 matches.
The Maroons are at Guilford today in an ODAC match that is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
