Roanoke Tops Randolph In Regular Season Finale, Await ODAC Championships
LYNCHBURG, Va. --- Roanoke topped Randolph, 8-1 in women's tennis action Tuesday to wrap-up the regular season. They finished tied for third in the ODAC Standings with Sweet Briar heading into the ODAC Tournament this weekend.
Laura Dodson (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring)won in #1 singles, 6-0, 6-2 to earn her 11th win of the season. All 11 victories have come in #1 singles this season. Corbin Leitch (Richmond, VA, Steward School)swept through #3 singles, 6-0, 6-0 winning her team-best 13th match of the season. She is 11-2 this year in the #3 slot and has won her ninth-straight, including two in #2 singles.
Kelsey White (Providence, RI, Wheeler)outlasted Jane Campbell in #2 singles, 3-6, 6-2, 10-7 for her ninth win this spring. She has won seven of the last 10 matches over the past month. Lucy Webb (Glastonbury, CT, Glastonbury)(6-0, 6-2) and Caroline Hunter (Salem, VA, Salem)(6-2, 7-5) won their matches in #4 and #5 singles, respectively. Hunter is now 4-2 this season in #5 singles matches.
Dodson and Leitch won, 8-2 in #1 doubles to finish the regular season with an 8-2 mark, 12-3 overall. They are winners of six-straight heading into the ODAC Championships this weekend. Kristin Nagy (Torrance, CA, Torrance High School)and White won, 8-5 in #2 doubles, followed by Hunter and Webb completing the doubles sweep with an 8-3 victory over the Wildcats.
Washington and Lee University will try to make it an even 20 wins of the ODAC women's tennis crown over the weekend as the Generals (15-5 overall, 10-0 ODAC) enter play in the 2010 ODAC Women's Tennis Tournament as the top seed. Winner of the past seven conference championships, W&L is followed closely into the postseason by second seeded Hollins University (13-2, 9-1).

Sweet Briar College (13-5, 7-3) earned the three seed via head-to-head tie-breaker with Roanoke College (10-5, 7-3), and Virginia Wesleyan College (8-8, 6-4) did the same in determining the fifth and sixth seeds with Bridgewater College (9-9, 6-4). Guilford College (7-6, 4-6) and Randolph College (6-8, 3-7) round out the eight-team field, sequentially.

The tournament format has undergone a bit of a makeover from the 2009 event. The 2010 tournament will cover three days, from Saturday, April 24 thru Monday, April 26. Instead of each place being played out, the only consolation match will be a 3rd/4th place match one hour following the semifinals on Saturday.
