Women's Tennis Earns Second Win Against Averett
SALEM, Va. -- Roanoke earned its second-straight win of the season against Averett in an 8-0 victory in non-conference action in their first-ever match at the Roanoke Campus Courts at the Elizabeth Campus. The Cougars drop to 0-1 while the Maroons improve to 2-1 on the young season.
In singles, Laura Dodson (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) defeated Johanna Heikkinen, 4-6, 6-3, 10-8. In doubles, her and partner Corbin Leitch (Richmond, VA, Steward School) routed Johanna Heikkinen and Ilona Kilpi, 8-6. Leitch also beat Kilpi 6-1, 6-0 in singles for straight sets.
Also in singles, Junior Caroline Hunter (Salem, VA, Salem) defeated Kristin Butts 6-1, 6-3. Freshman Casey Wojtera (Radford, VA, Radford) routed Tara Donahue 6-0, 6-0 in straight sets.

In doubles, her and teammate Kim Naylor (Springboro, OH, Springboro High School) overpower Tara Donahue and Annika Rindestedt 8-2. Lauren Marszal (Meriden, CT, Francis T. Maloney) defeated Justine Cherochak 6-1, 6-2 .
Lucy Webb (Glastonbury, CT, Glastonbury) and Katie Robinson (Virginia Beach, VA, First Colonial) secured a win over Nadja Sandau and Butts 8-6 to complete the match.
The women's next game is on March 13 against Virginia Wesleyan at the Elizabeth Campus Courts. The match is scheduled for 11 a.m.
