Women's Tennis Tops Emory and Henry 8-1, Falls to Washington and Lee 9-0

Roanoke defeated Emory and Henry 8-1 to achieve its fourth straight win this season, but fell to Washington and Lee 9-0. The Maroons record currently stands at 4-2 on the year while the Wasps fall to 1-11 and the Generals improve to 12-3.

In singles, Laura Dodson (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) easily defeated Emory and Henry's Alyssa Wingate 6-1, 6-3. Corbin Leitch (Richmond, VA, Steward School) defeated Kandyce Baker 6-1, 6-2. In doubles, Leitch and partner Dodson pulled out a win over Wingate and Baker 8-4. Also in singles, Kelsey White (Providence, RI, Wheeler) triumphed over Kaylee Gallant 6-0, 6-1, Lauren Marszal (Meriden, CT, Francis T. Maloney) overpowered Casey Blackburn 6-1, 6-0 and Wojtera, Casey (Radford, VA, Radford) prevailed over Anna Blydenburgh 6-1, 6-2 to help lead their team to victory. White along with partner Caroline Hunter (Salem, VA, Salem) also defeated the duo of Kaylee Gallant and Victoria Suttles in doubles competition 8-6. Wojtera and partner Katie Robinson (Virginia Beach, VA, First Colonial) easily obtained victory in their doubles match against Blydenburgh and Blackburn 8-0.

In singles, Leitch gave a solid effort in her match against Washington and Lee's Treslie Sadler, but was defeated 2-6, 0-6.

The women's next game is on March 24 as they take on Randolph College at home. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
