Women's Tennis Upends Lynchburg College, 7-1

LYNCHBURG, Va --- The Maroons upset Lynchburg College, 7-1 in ODAC womens tennis action Wednesday afternoon. With the win, Roanoke improved to 7-3 on the season, 5-2 in the ODAC, while Lynchburg fell to 2-9 overall and 1-9 in conference play.

In Singles,Laura Dodson(Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring), currently sitting in the #1 slot, shut down the competition with a match score of 6-0, 6-0 against Lynchburg's Clare Wallendjack. At the #2 spot, Corbin Leitch (Richmond, VA, Steward School), defeated Susanna Jones in a 6-1, 6-3 victory. Kelsey White (Providence, RI, Wheeler) added to the Maroons success, claiming a #3 singles win over opponent Casey Moore, with a 6-1, 6-3 result.

Jeannine Malay came up with the only win for the Lynchburg Hornets after edging past # 5 singles, Lauren Marszal (Meriden, CT, Francis T. Maloney) in a 6-3, 6-3 triumph. Kim Naylor (Springboro, OH, Springboro High School) also helped advance the Maroons to yet another win, after dominating the court with a 6-1, 6-0 final over Hailey Bettencourt (LC).

In Doubles competition, RC's Dodson and Leitch (#1 doubles) knocked off opponents Susanna Jones and Casey Moore with a final match score of 8-3. White and Kristin Nagy (Torrance, CA, Torrance High School) (#2 doubles) proved relentless in their 8-1, win over Wallendjack and Jeannine Malay. Pair, Lucy Webb (Glastonbury, CT, Glastonbury) and Naylor (#3 doubles) closed out the day's matches against competitors Gretel Coleman and Hailey Bettencourt, with an overwhelming 8-1 final.

Women's tennis will match up against Guildford College at home, April 11th at 4:00 p.m. . The game can be viewed at the Roanoke Tennis Courts located on the Elizabeth Campus.
