Roanoke Women's Tennis Slips Past Guilford 5-4
SALEM, Va.--- Roanoke Women's tennis ups their winning-streak to three as they edged Guilford College, 5-4 in ODAC action this afternoon. The Maroons now improve to 8-3 on the season, and continue to move up in the ODAC with a 6-2 record. Guilford dropped 8-10 on the season after its loss to Roanoke, and slipped to 5-5 in conference play.
In singles competition, #1 seed Laura Dodson (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) prevailed with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Guilford's Mackey Wesner. #2 Corbin Leitch (Richmond, VA, Steward School) showed no mercy as she swept the competition with a 6-0, 6-0 match against opponent Natalie Sutton. Quaker Nina Bollag, defeated Kelsey White (Providence, RI, Wheeler) in #3 singleswith a result of, 3-6, 6-0, 12-10. Katie Robinson (Virginia Beach, VA, First Colonial) helped the Maroons winning effort with a match score of 6-1, 6-0 over Adelaide Ayres in #5 singles.
In doubles competition, the duo of Dodson and Leitch (#1 doubles), won handily with an 8-1 match score against Natalie Sutton and Mackey Wesner. White and Kristin Nagy (Torrance, CA, Torrance High School) (#2 doubles) added to the women's success after they claimed the Maroons final win of the day with a score of 8-2.
Roanoke will host Sweet Briar College, Wednesday the 13th at the Roanoke Tennis Courts, located on the Elizabeth Campus. It is the Maroons third game in as many days and will wrap-up the regular season for the women. The game is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
