Women Compete in Fall ODAC Championships
ROANOKE, Va--- The Roanoke College women's tennis team completed its 2010 fall season at Hollins University this weekend in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Fall Championships.
The tournament began on Saturday, and players were sorted into different divisions or flights based on skill level. Corbin Leitch (Richmond, VA, Steward School) participated in flight A and went up against the toughest competition in the ODAC. She went 1-1 on the day, falling to Katie Gordon of Bridgewater, but she bounced back to defeat Guilford's Mackey Wesner in straight sets 6-0 and 6-1.
Kim Naylor (Springboro, OH, Springboro High School) and Morgan Thomson (Chester, VA, Home Schooled) both won two matches for Roanoke, competing in groups G and H respectively. Naylor defeated Anna Blydenhurgh of Emory & Henry 6-1 and 6-0, she then topped Sweet Briar's Grace Caskey 7-5, and 6-2. Thompson dropped her first match to Afrika Anthony of Sweet Briar, but rallied to knock off Randolph's Shreya Sharma and Hollins' Hillary Kursh in her final two matches.
In doubles action, Casey Wojtera (Radford, VA, Radford) and Leitch teamed up to go 2-1 on the afternoon in flight A. Kristin Nagy (Torrance, CA, Torrance High School) and Caroline Hunter (Salem, VA, Salem)worked together to win the consolation round of group C after falling in their first match to Katie Dotson and Trudy Siziba of Hollins.
Katie Robinson and Thomson won their first two matches of the day in group D before falling in the championship to Bridgewater's Natalie Sutton and Brittany Wilson 8-1.
The women's season is now done for the rest of 2010, but will return to action during the spring semester.
