SALEM, Va--- The Roanoke College Women's Tennis team opened their 2012 season with an 8-0 win over Averett University in Danville, VA on Tuesday. The Maroons improve to 2-0 and earned Justin Fainter his first win as head coach.

In singles play, Roanoke captured every matchup in straight sets. Haley Goodes (Salem, VA, Glenvar ) needed a tie-breaker in her first set against Erika Weyner before taking the match 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. Doubles combinations of Laura Dodson (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) with Corbin Leitch (Richmond, VA, Steward School) and Lucy Webb (Glastonbury, CT, Glastonbury) with Lauren Marszal (Meriden, CT, Francis T. Maloney) both earned 8-1 wins over their Averett opponents. The number two doubles contest was not started due to darkness.

The women are back in action on Friday, as they travel to take on Sweet Briar. Start time is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
